This week's Kodi Playlist Download is “The 90's and 2000's.”

After finishing all of the single decade playlists and while building artist, genre and other types of playlists, our daughter asked for one that spanned the 80's and 90's. I hadn't considered that before and thought it was a great idea. Thus began my quest to write about all of the dual decades. Today's playlist, “The 90's and 2000's,” is the second to the last dual decade playlist. Coming up will be, “The 2000's and 2010's.” After that one, we'll move back into our artist, genre and others groove.

The 90's and 2000's? The Internet (over 20 years old by the time the 90's came around) started to be used as a popular and common way to communicate; The World Wide Web was invented at CERN as the Internet's user interface. There were new ways to lose a lot of money – primarily investing in online startups that don't have business plans (“We don't charge anything, but we'll make a profit on volume!”); Presidential candidates started appearing on entertainment talk shows with Bill Clinton playing saxophone on the Arsenio Hall Show; Microsoft Windows 95 (yes, children – It was a big deal); Boy bands; Ellen DeGeneres came out; Garth & Wayne; Jackie Chan. The 90's were an economically prosperous time – The early 2000's, not so much.

Musically, rap got its start and women made a much bigger impact on the charts than they ever had previously. Examples include Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, Whitney Houston and Sinead O'Conner. But, enough of the talk, let's get to the point:

After downloading the .ZIP file, you need to do two things:

  1. Unzip the playlist into your Kodi music playlist folder — You can find specific information on playlist folders in this article: Kodi Playlist Folders
  2. Start Kodi (if it isn't already running) and navigate to the Playlist section of your music library, select this new playlist and enjoy

Today's playlist is 746 bytes in size and contains all of your music from the 1990's and 2000's except for Christmas, Classical and Flamenco in random order.

That's all there is to it. Follow the instructions listed above and quick as you can say, "Unbreak My Heart," you'll have a new music playlist.

Note: If you just copy the .ZIP file into your playlist folder, Kodi will handle it just fine. It sees the zip file and adds it to your list of playlists. Clicking on the .ZIP file will open it up and present you with the contents. In the case of today's file: “The 90's and 2000's.” Click on that and it works like any other playlist.
