Kodi Playlist Folders
[Note, This article orignally appeared on February 15, 2016 and was edited on January 16, 2017]
This article is a quick discussion of the locations that Kodi uses for the folders that are used for its Basic and Smart playlist files. Throughout the article, you'll want to substitute your user name (the user name on your HTPC) without the brackets any time [your user name] appears.
Here are the locations of the Kodi playlist folders for various operating systems:
Windows XP
Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Kodi\userdata\playlists\
Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10
Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\playlists\
Mac OS X
/Users/[your user name]/Library/Application Support/Kodi/userdata/playlists/
iOS
/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/Kodi/userdata/playlists/
Linux
$HOME/.kodi/userdata/playlists/
Within those folders, add: “mixed”, “music” or “video” folder names to denote the type of playlist. On a Linux system, for example:
mixed playlists
$HOME/.kodi/userdata/playlists/mixed
music playlists
$HOME/.kodi/userdata/playlists/music
video playlists
$HOME/.kodi/userdata/playlists/video
Kodi Playlist Folders In Actual Use
For a real-world example, I have Kodi installed on my Windows 10 desktop computer and on my family’s HTPC (Home Theater PC) which is an Ubuntu 16.04 Linux computer.
On my Windows desktop, music playlists live here:
C:\Users\Steve\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata\playlists\music
On our Linux HTPC, music playlists are stored here:
/home/chris/.kodi/userdata/playlists/music
