On August 14, 2015, Warner Bros. Pictures and director Guy Ritchie will hold the Theatrical Premiere of their new film, “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” The film is based on the hugely popular TV series that ran from 1964 to 1968. Rather than try to move the characters into the present day, the story takes place at the height of the Cold War in the early 60's.
“The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Debicki with Jared Harris and Hugh Grant.
The screenplay was written by Guy Ritchie and Lionel Wigram – The pair who previously gave us the reboot of the classic detective Sherlock Holmes in two hit films. The film stars Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) as Napoleon Solo (originally played by Robert Vaughn in the TV series) and Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Illya Kuryakin (played by David McCallum in the series). The film also stars Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Debicki with Jared Harris and Hugh Grant as Alexander Waverly (played by Leo G. Carroll in the TV series).
After viewing the first trailer for the film, I'm very optimistic that this retelling of some action / adventure TV from my childhood will leave me happy and satisfied. I've been burned before, but I'm an incurable optimist and I like it that way.
