VIZIO E-Series Displays Get HDR10 Firmware Update
On Thursday, February 9, 2017, Vizio, Inc. announced a firmware update for select VIZIO SmartCast™ E-Series™ Ultra HD Home Theater Displays. The new firmware update enables HDR10 compatibility with existing HDR Blu-ray players from Samsung (UHD-K8500) and Philips (BDP7501/F7), and the Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox One S game consoles. VIZIO E-Series displays will also be provided with future updates to support additional players as they become available.
VIZIO E-Series Features
The VIZIO SmartCast E-Series models receiving the firmware update (listed below) range from 55” to 70” in size and offer a 4K HDR display with full-Array LED backlight and up to 12 Active LED Zones that dynamically adjust to on-screen content. Using backlight scanning, the VIZIO E-Series displays updated for HDR10 offer Clear Action™ 180 technology with a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth and stable action scenes.
Updating and Enabling HDR10
To update a VIZIO E-Series display to HD10, ensure the display is connected to the Internet. Once connected, the display will automatically search for, download and install the firmware update. After the display has been updated, Open the VIZIO SmartCast remote control app on your mobile device. In the app, tap Settings, then tap Inputs, then HDMI Color Subsampling. Enable Subsampling for the HDMI port the HDR-enabled player or console is connected to.
