On Monday, August 21, 2017 VIZIO announced the availability of a VIZIO SmartCast TV software update for its 2017 VIZIO SmartCast™ E-Series Ultra HD Televisions. The new software version, which has begun rolling out to owners, presents users with a home screen featuring content recommendations and apps such as Amazon Video, Crackle, Hulu, iHeartRadio, Netflix, Pluto TV, Vudu and XUMO. Note that apps may require a separate service subscription and might not be available in all countries.

Using VIZIO SmartCast

With the software, users can browse shows, music and movies. Titles are available in high definition and in 4K Ultra HD and HDR where available. Launching content can be done with a touch of a button on the new 2017 remote directly from the TV. Additionally content can be controlled with the VIZIO SmartCast Mobile™ app.

The “Discover” section of VIZIO SmartCast aggregates popular and trending content from multiple sources in once place.

The latest version of the VIZIO SmartCast Mobile app for iOS and Android features a new navigation menu and allows users to browse SmartCast TV from their mobile device. Users can select and launch SmartCast TV apps, such as Amazon Video. Other functionality is included, such as pausing playback from any room in the house and continuing playback with the user's voice using Google Assistant on devices like Google Home.

The “Discover” section of VIZIO SmartCast aggregates popular and trending content from multiple sources in once place. Without jumping in and out of multiple apps, users can discover new content and launch their selections.

Owners might need to acquire the new 2017 remote if they previously purchased eligible TVs that included an older remote. The new 2017 remote features a V-button that provides one-button access to the VIZIO SmartCast TV software along with shortcut keys to top apps.

Pricing and Availability

The new VIZIO SmartCast TV software update is free and has started rolling out to 2017 SmartCast TV owners. The VIZIO SmartCast Mobile iOS and Android apps are free and available now. For a limited time, the 2017 remote can be ordered from VIZIO for free or for a nominal fee (some conditions apply). The remote is available now.

I am experiencing a problem with changing picture format (prior to new firmware no problems. Even at startup and new menu screen I still can’t use format change button. Why must one be limited to one screen format with a large screen display (E55u-D2). Anyone else experience this problem? VIZO claims it is a non issue.

      Pat,

I don’t have one of these models in the shop, currently. Looking at all of the documentation, it looks like there are two ways to change the picture. The first, is to cycle through the different picture modes using the button on the lower-right of the remote. The second method, and the one that looks like it provides the most control is to use the Vizio SmartCast App on your iOS or Android mobile device.

      Here’s a link to the documentation: https://cdn.vizio.com/documents/e55ud2/um-e55ud2.pdf

Once you’ve paired your mobile device to the TV (as talked about on page 8), you can then go on to page 36 for detailed instructions on how to change the picture.

If both of those methods don’t give you what you need, my last suggestion is to talk with Customer Support.

      On this page: https://www.vizio.com/e55ud2.html

Scroll down a bit until you see a menu running across the screen. There are 3 menu items: Overview, Tech Specs, and Support / Manuals. Click on Support / Manuals. That will bring up a section with Additional Links and Contact Support. Below Contact Support there’s a Contact Us link. Click the Contact Us link and a chat window will pop up.

The best of luck to you in these endeavors. Please Let us know how things ended up.
