Yamaha YAS-207 Sound Bar Introduced
On Monday, June 5, 2017, the Yamaha YAS-207 sound bar was unveiled. The new sound bar is the first to incorporate DTS Virtual:X®. Building DTS Virtual:X into the YAS-207 gives Yamaha a way to offer immersive sound in a sound bar and subwoofer combination without having to resort to in-ceiling or up-firing speakers.
DTS Virtual:X is designed to provide immersive 3D surround sound. Immersive 3D surround sound presents sound in a multidimensional space with sound effects that move around and above the listener. In addition to providing representation for object-based formats such as DTS:X™, Virtual:X also up-mixes non-immersive stereo or multichannel content.
YAS-207 Sound Processing
In addition to DTS Virtual:X, DTS Digital Surround, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic II, the new sound bar also features Yamaha’s Clear Voice functionality. Clear Voice raises dialogue levels to allow for more intelligible voices.
Yamaha YAS-207 Connectivity
The YAS-207 includes an HDMI® HDCP 2.2 input port and an HDMI HDCP 2.2 output port to pass 4K HDR video from sources such as a 4K HD Blu-ray Disc player or 4K streaming media player to a 4K Television. The HDMI output port also features an audio return channel (ARC) which can receive stereo and multichannel audio from the TV.
Bluetooth® connectivity is built into the sound bar allowing connections and streaming from any Bluetooth mobile device. Yamaha also provides a free controller app for Apple® and Android™ mobile phones and tablets.
The YAS-207 Profile and Speakers
The Yamaha YAS-207 is a successor and replacement for the YAS-203. It features a 2 3/8” high profile that’s thinner than the YAS-203. In this thinner profile, the YAS-207 contains four 1 3/4” woofers and dual 1” tweeters. The separate compact vertical rectangular wireless subwoofer contains a 6 1/4” cone woofer.
